WOODLAND DISCOVERY FOREST PROGRAM

FOREST ADVENTURE CLUB

Woodland Discovery is pleased to provide an authentic Forest School approach to Preschool.  Our "Nature Program"  is not just a timed activity to be outside. Our program is based on the German model of Waldkindergartens, and we are totally committed to interest-led flow of learning, emergent curriculum, place-based focus, inquiry-based teaching, and authentic play.  We believe that hands-on experiential learning is the best educational approach for children.

New for Fall 2020, we are offering this same approach for all students ages 5-10. This program follows the same Forest School model for an older group of inquisitive learners.

BEING OUTDOORS

Provides fresh air and a healthier environment

Improves physical coordination, core strength, and endurance

Builds emotional strength, resilience, perseverance, and independence

Motivates cognitive advances

Encourages thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills

Fosters social/relationship development & stewardship

When children's natural curiosity is encouraged, learning flows organically from stimuli encountered in the outdoors.  We encourage children to engage all their senses and increase their observation skills.  The learning is child-led and teacher supported. We follow the natural rhythm of the seasons and curriculum emerges organically. The day's activities may resemble a Reggio Emilio approach to project learning, with some of the best practices also borrowed from Bev Bos - play based learning; Waldorf - skill learning approach; Creative curriculum - art and sensory experiences; and Montessori sequential learning. As the Forest School movement gains momentum in the United States, we are with that movement and ever vigilant about choosing the best practices.

Every day is designed to include the essential elements of childhood growth:
A typical day includes a gathering activity, a hike in the woods, free play in the outdoors, snack, stories, process art, and games. Activities include organically driven pre-reading, pre-math and sensory experiences.

Whether your preschooler is in another part-week preschool program or not, give your child the gift of exploring the outdoors and experiencing the changing seasons first-hand.

Whether you've decided to Homeschool or have a rotating in-person/virtual learning environment, our outdoor programs can supplement your plans
