WOODLAND DISCOVERY IS HAPPY TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES
TO PLAY OUTSIDE.
Whether you enroll in our nature programs, or a program offered by a partner, we can facilitate outdoor activities, (i.e. outdoor skills, science, habitat studies, gardening etc...).
We can also assist and or provide traditionally indoor activities outside, (i.e. yoga, music, art, language etc.)
NATURE EXPLORERS
Located at our location at Harris Lake or public parks (These are often offered through "Parks and Rec.), we offer "explores" on a one-time or weekly basis. Each class offers emphasis on a theme for exploration, and discovery as well as environmental stewardship and leadership.
FOREST PROGRAMS
Designed to supplement or replace a traditional Preschool Program, you may sign up for 1 to 5 days per week of Nature Preschool or an older Forest Adventure program. This concept is based on the Forest Schools of Scandinavia and Europe and provide learning opportunities and physical activity beyond traditional offerings.
HOMESCHOOL OFFERINGS
New with the fall 2020 season, we are offering a full week of Homeschool opportunties for children ages 5-12 from 1 PM -4 PM. Each teacher designs the program to fill the needs of the class, utilizing the outdoors for the majority of activities.
AFTERSCHOOL - This class from 3:30-6 mirrors the topic of the homeschool classes and includes outdoor time for those in traditional school settings. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR NOW - but may be requested if you have a group of 6 students who want to create a custom program.
SCHOOL DAYS OUT
Recognizing that children in a formal school setting often do not have the flexibility to spend blocks of time outdoors, we often offer 1 day programs for days that correspond with days-off in local school calendars. These explores are often theme-related to maximize the discoveries of the season or may just join in the regular forest school model.
SUMMER CAMPS
Summer programs include week-long summer day camps for children from ages 4 to 12. Most of the activities take place in the shaded areas outdoors, with indoor space available for cooling off time. Several camp themes are offered concurrently to accommodate families with children of different ages and interests. Most camps are either morning or afternoon, but supervised lunch period is available for a free for those who opt to sign up for two sessions to provide all day activities.
We also offer a unique camp experience called, "Summer Explorers." This camp meets once a week all summer long for those who want to spread out their camp experiences. Activities may follow a theme of the weekly camp offered, or they may be unique, and often based on the interests of the Explorer group.
Some camps are designated as "Adventure Camps." They incorporate activities based on the book, "50 Dangerous Things you should Let your Child Do." But don't worry, it's 99.9% safe! In fact, children are generally safer when they've learned to observe and assess risks and practiced the thought processes of common sense. These camps may include fort building, throwing spears, climbing, fire building, inventing, etc.
AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCATION
We can design an "explore" at your school or site with an emphasis of your choice for preschoolers, home school groups, or after school groups. Length, times, and costs are flexible to meet your needs.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
We can plan and execute a Nature themed birthday party for your child. Prices start at $100 for up to 10 children for one hour of exploring and activities. Additional fees for take-aways, refreshments, etc. are negotiable.
WORKSHOPS
Our passion for outdoor learning enables us to share ideas with parents and educators on how children learn, and how to incorporate hands-on nature experiences into every day. We can also consult on "greening" up playground spaces.
Occasionally we may co-sponsor a workshop with another organization.
FIELDTRIPS
A class visit to our wonderful location at Harris Lake is designed to support your curriculum studies in woodlands, wetlands, gardens, meadows, ponds, creeks, flora and tree identification, bugs, birds, etc.
FACILITIES
Do you have your own topic and facilitator and just need a place to meet? Our location is available to rent or lease on a one-time or regular basis. Of particular interest to Home Schoolers, we can coordinate classes offered by other instructors so that your child can attend several classes in succession in one location.
SCHOLARSHIPS
We hope that no child is ever unable to attend programs because of cost. Woodland Discovery seeks to build a scholarship fund to assist with any family needs. If cost is a limitation, or if you are able to contribute, please contact us.
